Overall reliability
A potentially good car with reliability failings and very bad dealer experience over nearly 19 years.
Mazda make good cars.
But as the years pass their reliability has worsened.
Mazda and their dealers do not take care of their customers - and if there's a fault a bit out of the ordinary or not with an obvious cause, then you are on your own. I found an older, almost retired Mazda mechanic (at a Main Dealers) who spotted my 2009 Mazda 3 fault after a few minutes and a bit of thinking and the problem was solved cheaply.
This was after two main dealers had needlessly replaced two expensive parts.
I have bought several Mazdas 323s and 3s over many years, but my new car is a Toyota,
As Honest John wrote not long ago "no one looks after their customers better than Toyota". Very true!
