Lexus IS (2005 - 2013)
IS250 SE manual
Wonderful but could use more power
My car ownership past has been rather checkered, including an MG ZR, Astra Coupé, Saab 93 Aero, MG3 and an MG GS. When looking for my new car I had a limited budget (£4K) and a few non negotiable requirements: 6 cylinder petrol engine, RWD, manual gearbox and an interior which isn’t black.
This left few cars, a BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS250 at the top of the list. My good friend has the BMW so I decided to look for the Lexus and as luck would have it I found one in a wonderful red colour with the larger 18” wheels in shadow chrome and a beige leather interior. It looks stunning.
I love driving the car. It has a wonderful balance between handling and ride comfort and the gearchange is wonderful, like a rifle bolt. The car can be a lot of fun! The steering is a wonderful weight - not too light like most modern cars. I love driving it.
It is thirsty - especially round town (about 23mpg) but much, much better on a run if you cruise at 70. I have seen 41mpg indicated, about 35mpg measured.
The built in sat nav is good for such an old car and the stereo is OK, if not as good as expected.
I absolutely love driving it - it is a real pleasure, especially with Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. I love the look of the larger wheels and love the interior. It is a fun car on an empty road and a relaxing, comfortable cruiser.
I do wish it was a little quicker though!
