Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - 2015)
2.2 4wd GS
Love the car still
Now over 6 years of ownership from new and well out of warranty, the replacement and much more expensive Discovery Sport still holds no attraction and in 2018 Freelanders at dealers have been going up in price .
The biggest bug bear has been the rip off service pricing and the fact even doing a basic oil change needs software to reset the service indicator. Now do most of it myself and have found a work around to re-set the service clock.
Fuel consumption is good for this type of vehicle and you can get over 40 mpg on a steady run and around town it is still very acceptable.
I have found it easy enough to replace the rear brake pads even though it has an EHB but you need to go through a special sequence to get the brake pistons to draw back. I find a lot of useful info on a web site called Freel2.com .
Had one big bill for the EGR system (a bad batch got on to the Land Rovers with the 2.2 engine in 2013) otherwise its been OK but it does get more servicing than is specified in the service schedule. Example Land Rover says oils and filters in the 4Wd drive system will go 10 years with no service and that is complete nonsense as the filters in Haldex clog .
All in all I still love the car and there seems nothing so far to compete for my custom in a very practical 4X4.
"its the best all wheel drive car Ford ever made" !
