Kia Stonic (2017 on)
1.0 T-GDi 118bhp 2 ISG 5dr
Great all around family car
Originally we went to buy an Kia ceed but my wife saw the Stonic and fell in love with it. Waited till I had driven the car for a couple of thousand miles before writing this review. Must admit the car has been a pleasant experience. The 1.0 turbo engine is quite good fun when pushed, it could do with a touch more power at lower revs but overall it pushes the car along nicely. The clutch is a little springy but fine once you get used to it. The car has a nice rugged but sporty look and many of our friends have complimented the car.
The car comes well equipment with plenty of gadgets, and the cockpit is pleasant once set up, took me a little while to get a comfortable driving position, but once set its fine now. The rear sheets can get 3 adults in them but I wouldn’t like to have a long journey like that. Much better suited to 2 adults or 3 children.
The 3 cylinder engine has a sound that grows on you, it’s quite raspy when revved not in an unpleasant way. There is a quite a lot of tyre and wind noise at motorway speeds, so if you’re thinking of buying make sure you take it for a test drive where you can take it on a motor away or dual carriageway.
The handling is very good, very little body roll, and the ride is firm which I don’t mind. The car feels solid and poised.
Overall we’re happy with our purchase, the 7 year warranty was the clincher for us.
Well worth a look if you’re in the market for a small suv!
