Kia Rio (2005 - 2011)
1.4 2 5dr hatchback
No nonsense, does what it says on the tin
I wanted a brand new car, but had a specific budget. I needed something with 5 doors, and enough space for myself, SWMBO, a 7 year old and a baby, plus all the c*** that small kids need carrying about with them. I only cover about 6000 miles a year, so diesel wasn't necessary. I went for the Kia because it ticked all the boxes, plus I got a huge p/ex for my old Focus, over £800 more than other manufacturers were offering. The 7 year warranty was a major plus, too. Since I have bought it, it has been almost faultless, the only warranty job was a central locking switch on the boot that failed, which was replaced no questions asked, a grovelling apology plus courtesy car. Cant fault the dealer (Longley Park Motors in Huddersfield), were very relaxed, no high pressure sales. The car has done everything I required of it without missing a beat. 40 mpg on my average day to day driving, managed to get 50 mpg on a very careful (and slow) motorway journey once, measured by brim to brim fill ups. Had 3 services and 1 MOT so far, no unexpected costs, only replaced 2 front tyres. Suprisingly grippy in snow, too. Criticisms? Interior plastic scratches too easily, paintwork is very easy to mark. The solution? Be careful!!
