Kia Picanto (2011 - 2017)
1.0 5dr Hatchback
Cheap as chips
We wanted/needed a mini of some description as a family runabout which would be dead cheap to run and easy to handle in town. As usual I spent some time surveying all of the current crop and wanted new because I intended to keep whatever I bought for at least 10 years.
The ride is a bit joggly compared with my Skoda Roomster but then it is a mini so you can't expect anything else really but the seats are comfortable enough. Yes, it does go round corners with no discernable slide and the brakes are probably the best I have encountered in the last 20 years. I would like the steering to be a tad higher geared and I think they could easily do this with such a light car. £15 worth of petrol lasts a whole month for what we use it for so no complaints there and the heating warms up quite quickly. This is not a car for boy racers but once the revs are up, it bowls along quite happily and is really not too noisy as some others in the class are. Rather interestingly the dealer at the time was trying to get up to his full discount quota for the quarter so I got metallic paint and 5 doors for nowt (worth £800). We have now had it for almost 4 months and we are still just as happy with it.
