Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2009)
2.2 Diesel Sovereign Estate
Brilliant, suits me perfectly - a luxury van!
Comfortable, plenty of power, reasonable economy between 35 and 45 mpg, depending on the driving style and conditions.
I've had it six years and done 100,000 miles, I still love driving it and given the mileage, it's been pretty reliable on the whole.
Having said that I've got through a couple of EGR valves, a battery and a power steering pump.
The worst bit though is the pretty but rather fragile 'Bermuda' alloy wheels. Tyres are low profile 225/45 - probably a mistake unless you religiously keep them pumped up properly. Otherwise the dreaded potholes will get them. I've been through five so far at £300 each, plus a replacement tyre in most cases.
Would I buy another one? Yes, but unfortunately they stopped making them in 2010, so that's a bit old. So the only choice in the current Jaguar range is the XF Sportbrake but this is rather too large for my needs. Rumour has it that there will be a new small jag coming onto the market in a year or two.
Let's hope my trusty X type will do another couple of years without costing me an arm and a leg in repairs.
