Overall reliability

RELIABLE, COMFORTABLE, EASY TO DRIVE, ROOMY

We bought this car just over 5 years ago from a Hyundai dealer, it was 5 years old, one owner 21000 miles and a full service history. The dealer included a towbar, full service,4 new tyres, and 6 months rfl for £11000.Apart from routine servicing and a new battery our santa fe has been totally reliable, we recently had the timing belt, water pump and tensioners replaced at 60000 miles. For such a large automatic it is remarkably good on pads and discs, fronts lasting up to 30000m and rears slightly more. Overall fuel consumption is approx 35mpg and nearly 40 on a run. On road handling is good, with a smooth supple ride, it takes rough roads and humps easily, off road it has surprising capabilities. The only gripe is a fairly high ved rate although much cheaper than L/R products for example, Insurance is very reasonable, the autobox is very smooth and with light steering, seats are very comfortable, on a 420m round trip I had no nasties afterwards and averaged 41mpg. I drove a 2013 freelander recently and frankly wasnt impressed with this so called British icon, although it would have probably been more capable off road. When the time comes we will replace this with another Santa Fe.
