Ford Galaxy (2015 - 2023)
2.0 EcoBoost 240
Seven seater limo with an unbelievable thirst
Big, airy car with supple ride and laid back demeanour. Unimpressed by quality of smaller trim items, such as the plastic clips which hold panels in place or clip back the rear belts. Lost count of how many have snapped or buckled seemingly without any effort: they are regularly found in footwells and on the driveway.
Reliable so far. Central SYNC 3 infotainment system faster and more user friendly than SYNC 2 and handles Apple and Android devices without additional spend. Navigation OK but basically unused now there's Google Maps on tap. LED headlamps fantastic for night schlepping but just silly expensive. Seats comfortable with good quality materials; oddly the standard seats have a noticeably more pliable, quality feeling leather than the more expensive ventilated option.
Lots of cubby holes, pan roof with tilt/slide front section great for three kids in the back on long journeys. Rear seats also get their own air vents and the HVAC never seems to struggle keeping the car a uniform temperature whatever the weather.
What lets it down is the fuel economy, in that it doesn't have any. With a light touch around town we are averaging 23mpg/journey which is AMG Mercedes territory. It's not just the cost of constantly filling up but the routine aggravation of doing so.
Would I recommend this car to a friend? Yes. Would I recommend the big petrol variant? No.
