Ford Focus ST (2019 on)
2.3 280 ST EcoBoost 5dr
Understated but supremely capable Hot Hatch
I have driven and owned such cars as Honda Civic Type R and Hyundai i30N, both of which were excellent in most regards and it would be churlish to criticise either . BUT in my opinion the Focus ST combines the best parts of both of those two and the end result is magnificent.
The looks are probably the most contentious part for enthusiasts, but see one in the flesh! definitely test drive one.
I have just traded in an Audi TT convertible for a Focus ST, yes the 2 cars are designed for totally different circumstances, but the Focus is just that more joyous and involving to drive.
The ride, roadholding and steering are just simply outstanding, there is nothing I can recall having driven, read or watched that surpasses this car at anything approaching the price point.
Other than the test drive of a demonstrator I have not explored the performance of the car as I shall bed it in for a self imposed 1000 mile 3500 rev limit running in period, but that demonstrator performance left a strong impression with me, it's very similar to a Type R
The cabin fit and finish is good and the car very well equipped with all manner of aids eg rev-matching, LED headlights, reversing camera ...... an endless list really.
Early experiences (300 miles to date) are just ones of positivity , just about managing 31 mpg and zero faults to report. The very comfortable electrically operated Recaro seats better those seeing service in the Fiesta ST as they are larger, a little less bolstered and so easy to find the perfect position
Summary :- Excellent
