Powerful, responsive but very thirsty

I bought this car almost exactly a year ago, its done approx 26k miles and in this year i've needed a new alternator, starter motor and at its recent MOT was told that the performance brakes will need fully replacing in 4-5K more miles...
Most importantly i've found that in one year it has never done the book mpg on a tank of fuel, apparently its supposed to get 32ish mpg but if i get 20, then i think i've had a good result.
I find the driving position too high even with the seat lowered to its minimum, and 'm not the tallest pf people, standing at 5'10", and although the classy recaro seats adjust in just about any position possible, i've found it hard to find a comfortable position, and on longer drives my back hurts, however most passengers say that they find it quite comfortable.
The road tax is £250 for a year which is quite steep for what is essentially just a souped up focus and the insurance is extortionate...
so to say one must be financially stable to own and enjoy this motor is quite an understatement.

anyway...
this car i fast, i havent experienced any of the turbo lag, and it just seems to go and go and go. evenwhen cruising in 6th gear at high speeds a short prod on the gas pedal sends it flying evn faster, there just doesn't seem to be an end to getting more power frm the engine, or more importantly the turbo.
the engine is quite noisy in the car when driving at the lower speeds, but surprisingly when its opened up it seems to quiet down and often you wont believe the speed you are travelling at because there is no engine noise.
there's plenty of space in the rear and boot, we're a 2ad & 2ch family who has camping holidays and we've never had any problems with fitting all items in.
