Ford Focus (2008 - 2011)
climate 1.6TDCi (DPF)
very economical and reliable but the DPF pffftt !
I bought the diesel knowing that i was gonna do much more mileage what with relocation in job etc .... and I read all the reviews and this was the car for me.
Test drive a few and they all felt quite well built.
What i failed to read up on was the DFP probs that diesels have.
I failed to read up on how expensive they are to replace.
Having had it replaced at a ford garage for approx £1000 i now have to keep the car for a little longer than i would have liked to.
What I dont understand is why Ford only give a 12month warranty or 12000 miles on the replacement when the part is meant to last up to 90k miles on a new car...... I telll you why .... cos soon after the 1 yr warranty probs came up again !
It might be bad luck but I wasnt about to replace it again at a cost of another £1000 !
I had a work around.... still got the car 109k miles and still going strong.
Low down torque aint great but once its cruising its fine.
Motorway distances of 180 miles avg 68mpg ! 50mpgs around town easy.
Ive thought about going German for the next car but finding it difficult for this one to break or to find a German that will do as good on mpg with a similar size cabin space ...
