Ford Fiesta (2013 - 2017)
1.6 Zetec Powershift 5 door
Great apart from worrying gearbox
Car had only done 1200 miles when we bought it and everything seemed to be as good as it was on the test drive for the first two weeks but then the gearbox noises started. We had test driven four other examples of exactly this vehicle and mileage and none made these noises.
Clunking at very low speeds from cold and grating/grinding sounds from 25mph upwards.
We have taken it to the local Ford Dealer on no less than 7 occasions and it has had numerous "software updates" but it still makes these disturbing noises. The reaction from Ford Dealer and a Technician sent from Ford have gone from "we cannot hear anything" to "those are quite normal noises for this type of gearbox2.
Look on the internet we find that Ford has had major problems with the Powershift gearbox in the Fiesta and Focus models in Australia and USA which have resulted in an extension of gearbox warantees in those countries to 5 years. We are still waiting for Ford UK to "come clean" and formally advise UK customers of a similar warranty extension - probably with get-out weasle words knowing Ford UK. Apart from the Powershift worries the car is fun to drive, carries people in comfort and quite a lot of luggage etc, is economical and inexpensive to run and maintain - what a shame (especially when we wanted a VW Golf but hated the DSG hesitancy etc)
