STEP UP OR STEP DOWN

Moving back to town living from village life it was time to trade in the trusted Duster 1.2tce if only to save fuel costs. Great car but thirsty in town.
A look around and there were some good deals to be had on the older model Stepway as the new model was due. Very tempted by the new model but really preferred to wait until people had used it in real life for a year or so so any bugs sorted.
So now the owner of a Sandero Stepway in Comfort trim. Is it a step up or down from the Duster. Well its smaller with a smaller engine the 0.9tce. However having lost our beloved Boxer Dog in lockdown plenty of room in the boot for the two of us. The performance whilst I used the ECO button a lot in the Duster find the Stepway performs better without. This though probably what i am used to in terms of performance. Sitting in the drivers seat plenty of room and I am 6 foot. I have the seat in the low position the wife being shorter the high. I find this gives it more of a city car feel than a small SUV. If you driven a Duster then you will certainly feel at home. The one thing unlike the Duster the instrument panel is illuminated when the lights are off. A massive help it was a real bug bear for me about the Duster.
I dont look at the car as a small Duster but in its own right and more than happy with it. It handles City Life cheaper losing very very little on the motorways if you observe the speed limits with enough power in an emergency if needed.
Dacia seem to have hit the sweet spot right now in the lower price new car market. Concerned that like the early Datsuns through to the ,Korean manufacturers we will see it steadily raise its prices. Which will leave those of us that enjoy a new car without paying excessive prices waitung for the next manufacturer. So right now if you dont mind the badge and dont miss the latest new fangled gadgets make the most of Dacia is my view.
