BMW Z4 (2003 - 2009)
Z4 2 door roadster 2.2i
A superb mix of stlye and performance
The BMW Z4 is a beautifully designed two seater convertable, with enough power to keep you wanting more!
After driving a Golf GTD as a company car for just over a year, I just couldn't go back to my former motorway barge, a Seat Ibiza 1.4. Therefore, i began looking around for something else that developed around the same 170BHP that the GTD did or a little more or less but was under £10,000.
My top three choices was a Honda Civic Type R, Honda S2000, or the BMW Z4. After test driving. I I found the Type R to be a very exciting car to drive but a little too frantic for me and the bright red upholstery and the overly energetic engine im sure would have sent ne mad or turned me into a raging boyracer! But nonetheless a very likeable car that I did almost buy. Next up the S2000. Now before I go to view any car I get an insurance quote online to see if the car is affordable to run. To my disappointment the quote I recieved for the S2000 was unbelievably high so therefore I had to cross it off the list quicky before i did something stupid. As i know the S2000 is a very well respected car with excellent performance stats.
At the time I saw the Z4 as a little boring and as a last choice. However, in hindsight I think the best was saved for last. On viewing the Z4 for the first time I was impressed with the luxury feel of the cabin. Everything looks well made in the interior of these cars and makes for a very comfortable place to be. On the test drive I was even more impressed by the way it drove effortlessly. The Z4 felt solid on the road. Acceleration was smooth and powerful, 0-60 felt shorter than the 7.4s that BMW recommend for this model (2.2i) and the handling was very, very good. To my suprise the Z4 turned out to be the car for me. It doesn't have the same performance stats as my other two contenders but what a great compromise it is between luxury and performance.
Given the right spec and condition anyone buying a Z4 will not be disappointed.
