BMW 5 Series Touring (2004 - 2010)
520D M sport tourer
An opulent driving experience, but I'll probably be going back to a Focus for my next buy.
After four Ford Focuses I decided to treat myself to the BMW 502D...a well used example but with plenty of miles left, I'm sure. So far I'm loving its comfort and responsiveness although after the Fords, I'm still getting used to its sheer size and weight. And of course I'm having to bite the bullet with regard to its running costs (particularly since I went, against my own expectations, for the automatic...very nice}.
I'd just point out one or two niggles that don't seem to have been mentioned before: first, with the very comfortable driver's seat in its best position for me, access to the door pocket is very awkward; second, it's quite annoying that as soon as you open the boot the parcel shelf is disengaged from its retaining recesses, so popping something quickly into the boot ( a wet brolly for example) can be a two-part job. Particularly annoying if you forget and only notice the restricted rear vision once you're about to set off.
Oh, I'd have loved a roof pocket for my sunglasses, too. (Maybe that's been sorted in later models?)
So I'll enjoy it while it lasts, but two or three years from now I'll almost certainly be heading back to my local Ford dealership.Who knows? I might take a turn as Mondeo man...
