BMW 5 Series (2017 on)
520 M Sport 520d 190 48v MHEV Auto Start/Stop 5dr
Comfortable but not the most striking to look at
Bought from a BMW main dealer, had an immediate issue once I had collected the vehicle. At higher speeds there was a noticeable wobble when driving at motorway speeds. Turned out that there was an issue with one of the wheels. This was poor as BMW claim they do a zillion point check on all their vehicles before they are handed over. Not a good start. However after owning two 3 series, the 5 was a step up in comfort and refinement. Cruises well and the cabin is serene. The xdrive which is the version I have really does make a difference to grip and the car is a beauty around corners. Annoying for a car this expensive you don’t get folding mirrors or reversing camera as standard or other things you would expect to at this price point. The car is a big vehicle and although it has parking sensors can be cumbersome to reverse park which can be a bit stressful. Infotainment system is slick, crisp and wonderful to use which is a pleasure. The Sat nav however although it looks polished is a bit of a nightmare. It gets rather confused when using speech recognition and you sometimes have to provide more criteria than you want to input your destination which is really annoying. There are lots of positives for the car but I’m not entirely blown away by the looks of it and with the warranty expiring in a few months I do have concerns going forward with what may go wrong. Would I buy again? No I think there are better looking cars out there that offer far more as standard. Driving it though is up there with the best in class. Also tax is £480 a year so beware !
