Overall reliability

Fantastically styled inside and out, let down by everything else.

Before I start, I shall tell you I am a true Alfa fanatic and am therefore used to their idiosyncrasies, I also own a 3.0 GTV, so I feel I qualified to comment!
Styling inside and out great.
After that it all goes down hill. Initially when you sit in the Guilietta it feels very sturdy, comfortable and safe. Equipment levels are high with only satnav missing.
However after a journey of around an hour I tend to feel drained. Heavy clutch, road noise and a fairly pointless DNA system which no setting really works.
Handling is generally ok, but not fun like other Alfas I've owned. The engine has 170bhp, but you would never know as you have to work it so hard, it seems to be missing the low down torque of other diesels I've driven. This is not my driving style but only manage 45 mpg.
Reliability - new gearbox after 17,000 miles. Blue and me failed, leaking boot (not fixed after two attempts) creaking suspension and now the radio has just about lost all reception! Too many rattles and squeaks, even the doors shudder when closed going over bumps ( courtesy car did this too ).
So there you go.
To be honest I hate it when people knock Alfas as I feel they are missing the point. But I feel it hard to defend the Guilietta. Wish I'd kept my 159, a far better car in every way!
