Police involvement after RTA - confused... - snay24

Hello - any advice appreciated, new to all this! I was involved in an accident recently where I pulled out of a parking space and moved off down the road. A motorcycle saw me do this, braked to slow down and fell off his bike. I followed procedure and rang police gave my statement, they assured me all was fine. I informed my insurance company in case third party put in a claim and they were unconcerned as no collision. However, police now want to visit me at home and won't go into details about why. I am worried about being charged with something?? Can this happen even if there was no actual collision?? Thanks in anticipation!

Hi ,I guess it's possible you could be charged with careless driving ,or driving without due care and attention .

However as no collision took place , its possible that you could say that the motorcyclist was riding without due care and attention .

As far as the police are concerned ,I wouldn't have any additional conversations with them ,your not obliged to .

If they insist on seeing you again make an appointment with a solicitor and meet the police in his office , if not you could inadvertently say something to the police that could cause you problems .

Thanks for this.

The OP's admitted he caused an accident by failing to observe an approaching vehicle.

No defence, I reckon.

I do not see what there is to be confused about the OP caused an accident and the police will want statements from all parties before or if any action is taken. To presume what he will be charged with is premature he will have to wait a police decision.

Think yourself lucky its only a driving offence. Last time the Police interviewed me it was regarding a murder, why was I a suspect, because I owned a Silver Nisan Micra.

Driving a micra should be a criminal offence .

I hate to think what you'd charge me with in my Pride (KIA).

You say that the police have already taken a statement from you concerning the incident. It sounds like they are now on a fishing expedition to try to get you to contradict what you told them the first time. "No comment until I have consulted my legal adviser" is a good answer to their questions.
