Looking for some consumer advice - aaj

Earlier this year I purchased a 4 year old Mercedes ML from a large car dealer. It was £17,000 with 55k miles on the clock. After 2 months the parking sensors became eratic and after 3 months they had stopped working, I'd now driven 5k miles in the car. When I contacted the dealer they said that as it was more than 1 month since I purchased the car and that the car had a high mileage, because of these 2 factors they would not look at the parking sensor issue. Is there anything I can do? or do I have to bit the bullet and get the sensor repaired myself?
