Ford mondeo - Ford mondeo - its not the EGR - Oi Lee
Ive read all the posts and they all point to my EGR beeping faulty. I changed the EGR but problem still persists.

Symptom.
When travelling and using the smallest amount of throttle to maintain speed on a flat road the car kangeroos. When using no throttle it's fine. When using a little bit more throttle, ie gently excellerating you can about feel the car fluttering. Kind of speeding up and slowing down about twice a second. It also smokes badly as well. This is very rhythmic and regular.
Before I changed the EGR I disconnected the vacuum pipe. This stopped all the above symptoms but driving was not as smooth and after a few miles the engine check light came on. I changed the EGR for a new one (already tried cleaning it out) connected everything back up. Symptoms returned and engine check light still on.
Car has done 150,000 miles but is still strong.

Any other ideas. Turbo pipe is not split.
Thanks lee

Think you will have to bite bullet and take to ford for diagnostic. £50 where I take mine. If I get work done they sometimes don't charge. It's got to be linked to electric sensor. Cars are a pain in the **** now, years ago I could take engines out and in within one day old cavalier clutch done in 20 mins or quicker Now you need computers to fix the bleeding things. Be interesting to know what it is

blocked exhaust? Garage can check it for back pressure.

Checked the fuel filter?

Mass Air FLow Sensor?

Battery connection? unlikely but easy to check.

try the Ford Mondeo owners forums- there is a lot of info on there website.

thanks for the responses. One thing i have noticed since i fitted the new EGR is fumes in the cabin so i presume the seal from the exhaust to the EGR is probably leaking. I was going to use a bit og copper grease on the metal seal to assist its sealing capability.

Good idea or no?

thanks Lee
