VW PASSAT 2.0TFSI - 2006/56 - Passat Parking brake fault - Med

Hey Guys,

Bought my self a VW passat 2.0tfsi about 3 weeks ago used with 68k on the clock, now - over the past few days i've had a squeeking noise coming from the rear tyre, drivers side - i done everything i could have i.e. take it to the mechanics, even bought my self some EBC red stuff brakes thinking the brake pads were worn out.

Took it to the mechanics, he said the pads are fine, take the others back. He couldn't see any obvious signs of wear on the disc but the noise carries on.

It only happens when the engine is warmed up and stops when i press the brake, but it also happens when i turn right. Mostly its happening in traffic and i won't hear it over 30mph but the noise is getting embarrasing.

Ok, thats that - now, today on the way to work luckily only 5 mins away i had 2 warning lamps appear, one was the "P" to state a parking brake fault and the other is the ESP. You lot got any ideas what to do? or what it could be? Do you think its related to the noise?

Oh, the electronic handbrake is working fine. I still leave it in 1st gear to make sure though.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

possibly a rear caliper fault, or the pads are siezing in the calipers. when pads are fitted the calipers need recalibrating so should be done with a tool electronically.

If new pads are fitted and the rear calipers not reset they take up to 1000 miles to recalibrate and faults will be logged in the ABS module.

It may pay to take to an indy who has the diagnostic tool to check to see if the h/b motors do wind in and out when using the diagnostic tool. If the pads are part worn they can be measured and the thickness can be coded into the calipers as a value
