Peugeot 306 - dot 5.1 brake fluid...is it worth it? - scfc_151

Im replacing pads/discs and fluid soon and heard a few people mention dot 5.1 would give a firmer pedal feel.

I was wondering if its worth chaning from dot 4.1? If so can I just bleed the brakes as normal and top up with 5.1?

Im also looking at getting the calipers reconditioned. Can anyone recommend a good place to get this done?

cheers

Are you having problems with boiling brake fluid?

Let's see if I can get this right:

DOT 3 - Glycol based based fluid

DOT 4 - Glycol based fluid that supseded DOT 3. Basically an uprated specification, but compatible with DOT 3.

DOT 5 - Originally a silicon based fluid developed for competition use. NOTCOMPATIBLE WITH DOT 3/4.

DOT 5.1 - fluids are glycol based and are compatible with DOT 3/4.

Are you using your Pug for competition?

No no problem with boiling brake fluid and not using on the track.

I was just wondering if it would make a positive difference for an extra few quid for a bottle?

Also im after replacing brake pads and discs but cant decide if I should buy oem from peugeot or aftermarket. They are quite expensive but I want to try any get the brakes as good as they were when the car was new.

I had to make an emergency stop the other day and was not impressed with how long it took to stop.

Does anyone know who makes they brake parts for peugeot?
