hi i'm quite new to this type of forum,so please bear with me re fault description

the car is the first of the 300 series(may'94)

the electrics are shorting out between the ignition & starter motor - resulting in the h/brake cable glowing red & smoke venting up via cable @ the lever end.the h/brake warning light switch wiring running up to the lever shows no sign of burning.

please advise what other wiring can come into contact with the cable such that i can identify the problem & resolve it

by the way no fuses have blown

best regards

Whatever you do dont drive it,it sounds like you have a major short you need to disconnect the battery and get someone with some electrical knowledge to have a look ,Hazard a guess that the hand brake cable has worn through the insulation on a cable to the starter motor or alternator.

Probably engine to chassis earth strap adrift.

659.

If the h/brake cable is heating up when cranking then its most likley a bad earth or braken cable as 659fbe states but i have replaced several engine looms on these in the past.
it really should be checked out by a sparky as Andy quite rightly has suggested.
Electrical fires are all too common , not worth dicing with death
