Citroen Saxo vtr 1.6 - engine will not turn of - dazlack

my friend just purchased this car yesterday he,s come to work this morning and the key wouldnt come out of the ignition finaly we managed to get the key out but the engine didnt turn of so we stalled the car but the dash lights remaind on so we replaced the key and tried to start the car again the car would not start without us bumping it, same again when we stopped and removed the key the engine kept on running, any help would be great please before it has to go to the garage and charged a fortune ... thanks daz

could be something as simple as a faulty ign switch/ worse is wiring or depending on year of saxo a bsi unit.
