00 1.8 Indicator flasher unit - freespirit
When I put my indicators on they work outwardly okay every time but I often do not get the audible click-click feedback sound, only the lights on the dash.
It is very intermittent sometimes going days or journeys working correctly sometimes not and so on.
On old cars you can usually find a flasher unit that makes this noise and replace it, but I cant find the equivalent on the circuit diagram for this car in the Haynes manual, nor does it mention such a thing.
Anyone out there know where it is or what makes the clicking sound on this car?
The sound seem to come from behind the instrument panel somewhere.
( By the way, I get an ocassional fault with the speedo needle dropping to zero for a few seconds, which may be related? e.g bad connections to the instrument panel?)

Dropping speedos on D9s (facelift/mark 2/potato/potato) is usually dodgy connections on the dash.

On my later com2000-inflicted 406 the plip plop comes from a tiny speaker on the (indicator) unit itself. Not sure about the earlier ones tho.

on my 406 the flasher unit is located behind the right hand air vent. remove the 3 screws on the dash above the speedo and pull out the moulding.

oh:) just remembered, when you open the driver door theres an access panel on the side of the dash, pop that off and see if its in there.

I have exactly the same issues. My flasher sound doesn't work 99% of the time, speedometer is at zero 50% of the time. Did you find any solution?

as for your speedo problem i pulled the interface box out ,took it apart(tricky job cutting it appart) then i wrapped the platic in alluminium foil, took to it took to it with a hot air gun for paint stripping holding the gun about 6 inches away from the circuit board putting the heat on the side that does not have all the resistors .just long enough to reheat the solder joints to let it flow back into the board. now it works great i had big problems getting a used on and did not want to buy new incase that was not the problem .

but any way my fix worked well.

i read about this tequnic when looking for a fix on a xbox 360

I had exactly the same problem on my 1998 406 2.0 GLX estate.

I changed the instrument panel for a used one I bought on Ebay - this fixed the dials reading zero problem but the flasher problem came back & is still there intermittently like before.

The flashers always work outside but the 'clicking' and indicator lights on the instrument panel sometiomes don't work.

I have determined that the 'clicking' is electronically generated from a small loudspeaker on the instrument panel.

The fault is obviously not on the instrument panel but must be elsewhere - I've read that the stalk switches cause a lot of problems on these cars.

Is it worth replacing the indicator stalk switch?
