We're going back up to Yorkshire next month and will be bringing mum and dad back down to Basingstoke with us.
Normally, to make the journey as short as possible, we chase down the M1, M42, M40, A34 etc. but with the old folks onboard we're going to make it a bit more leisurely.
We intend to set off between 10 and 11am and then stop for lunch somewhere.
Any personal recommendations for a good lunch somewhere on the backroads between M42/M6 and Swindon on a Sunday afternoon. Cost isn't important but good seafood is a must.

Within a 25-mile radius of MK I suggest the following:
Red Lion at Stratton Audley just NE of Bicester on the A4421.
You could leave the M40 @ J10 and work your way across or J9 and go back on yourself.
Homemade burgers are ace but can't vouch for the seafood!
There are a number of good pubs in and around the Deddington, Clifton & Aynho area south of Banbury, but their names escapes me. Quick Google should sort you out.
Again leave M40 @ J10 or J11 and work your way down.
Woodstock (on the A40 NNW of Oxford) is rammed with good boozers, etc.
Guess it all depends on how far up in Yorkshire you're starting out from which will then surely equate to what part of the Midlands you'll be hitting at around 1:00pm?
Personally I'd leave much earlier than 10 or 11 and head across to any number of fine hostelries in Chipping Campden or head directly to the Kingham Plough at Kingham off the A436 Chipping Norton/Stow road. You may well have to book in advance and you could even bump into Clarkson!
After lunch pop the parents round the corner to the "I saw you coming" priced Daylesford Organic. Being Yorkshire folk(?) they'll be utterly astounded at what you can pay for a bar of soap there...

I agree with RickyBoy.
If you do treat your parents with a visit to Chipping Campden, I'd recommend The Kings in the square at the centre of Campden (car park via small drive at side of hotel)

Fantastic food, very smart, not too expensive, friendly and relaxed.
If you come this Sunday, there are open gardens in the afternoon, your chance to wander around the grounds of some beautiful properties!

Thanks guys.
The Kingham Plough and Kings Arms both look to be worth a visit. I've delegated the Googling to Mrs. K - she loves reading menus.
>you could even bump into Clarkson!
That would be a problem, she absolutely hates him! I have to record TG and watch it when she's not around.

We went to Le Manoir a few years ago. It was very good but I'm getting a bit of heat over my expenses at the moment ;-)

"but with the old folks onboard"
Z28 or Sovereign?

>Z28 or Sovereign?
Tee hee!
The Z28 would be a bit cramped for four plus luggage so it'll be the Jag.
