I've just got back from a week away, and on checking the car before using it noticed that the front passenger side tyre has sustained damage to the rim protector strip that runs around the wheel.
The damage is approximately 0.8 cm x 05cm and a mm or 2 deep and looks like the rim protector has been peeled back using a knife. I've checked the tyre pressures and its still spot on.
My question is, is the damage repairable and if so how? Or should I just cough up for another tyre?
Also has anybody got any recommendations for decent tyres that are more durable than Goodyear Eagle F1?s? I?ve been very disappointed with their susceptibility to sustaining damage.
Thanks for any advice.

Is it worth while taking a risk with tyres. Let a good independant have a look at it and see what they say. It is possible to "glue" the rim protector back.
Personally I have always found Goodyear Eagle F1 a good gripping tyre with a reasonable life. However all tyres are a compromise between wear and grip. Good grip usually = worse life.

If you glue it on it wont be a rim protector any more. It did its job, it saved your rim.
Either buy a new one to save your rim again or dont scrape the wheel

It sounds cosmetic if it's just the rim protector, I'd superglue it and pinch it back into place.

I agree it worked ,it saved ya rim cut off the loose bit and use tyre as a spare .buy a new tyre, the rim protector is unreparable .what car is it on ??

If you super glue it back it will stay put but it will not work as a rim protector any more cos as soon as you knock the tyre in that same place you will do ya rim !
