Hello...
I've got a '94 Celica 2ltr GT (import) and its currently bouncing like a kangaroo with parkinsons.
I had it booked into the garage on Friday but as its an import their reader 'didn't fit'. To book it in to another garage i'd need to take another day off work but its very busy and i'm still in my probation period so can't afford to take too many days off.
I'll try and give as much info as possible....
1 - on occasion if i nail it in second you can hear it pop / backfire slightly
2 - judders and struggles to pick up speed in all gears
3 - can be ok 'sometimes'
4 - doesn't clear up after the car has warmed up
5 - the lights will fade slightly and come back on
also, what i have been told is the relay light, comes on occasionally for 5 minutes and then goes off. The light is a rectangle with 2 lines in each side and 'squiggles' coming out of the top.
Any ideas as to what it could be and anything a mechanical moron could try whilst waiting to get it into the garage?
cheers
Mek

The light is the cat overheat light and suggests your problem is ignition related and unburnt fuel is getting into the cat and burning. Start by checking plugs and leads looking for burn marks down the side of the white ceramic part of the plug. I dont know the extent of your expertise but measuring the resistance of each lead would be a good test for an open circuit lead. Also check cap and rotor for cracks or tracking.
