Think this was a result of some American legal requirements; in the 70's the Yanks went seriously overboard with bike legislation, mainly on alleged safety grounds ....... is this starting to sound familiar?

All gearchanges were standardised to left-side; this had the effect of excluding Laverda from the US market altogether, and forcing Triumph, Norton and even Harley-Davidson to adopt Heath-Robinson crossover linkages which had a seriously detrimental effect on the bikes' rideability. Throttles had to have return springs, bikes got plastered with side reflectors and enough idiot stickers to sink a battleship......... and it did absolutely nothing to stop people who rode badly getting killed.

As the Yanks say, you can't fix stupid.

robin , just for you hk.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4hyKY41sM8 don,t worry about it being at 90 degrees , you will see why soon, the guy behind (trying to keep up?) is on a 1000cc multi cyl bike , the little morini is a 350 capable of about 99 mph

enjoy
