An interesting letter from the NMR - chairmanmatt
Hi All,

I've just had a letter from the National Mileage Register for a car I part exed over a year ago. They've written to me asking me for the mileage of my old Vauxhall Vectra which I traded in for my current MX5.

I presuming either the dealer or the subsequent owner has clocked it. I usually fill the mileage in on the V5 when registering cars so am guessing the new owner has subsequently stated the mileage is lesser than it was at it's last MOT. Any ideas???

Nothing so sinister, I suspect.

The selling dealer - which could be anyone by now - probably wants to do no more than verify the mileage for his customer.

No reason to assume there's been any skullduggery.

A dealer or private owner has simply checked the "NMR Investigation" box on an HPI check. The NMR send a letter to every registered owner on the DVLA database asking for details. Combined with past MOT's and mileages put in on V5's it enables a full picture to be built up of the car's past history and the dealer to sell it with warrantied mileage.
