2001 1.8 - rear end very twitchy - greigclark1974
i own a vectra sxi 2001. my car has allways been very twitchy. its only twitchy when braking on either light or hard corners, feels very crabby but no in a straight line. i have changed alloys to 17 215 45s and has not made any noticeable difference.
just wondering if any other suggestions could be made by others as it was written of yesterday on mild bend, i took a left hand bend and it had no feeling to the rear of the car, no squealing of tyres, no crabing just a feeling like the rear was skating on ice. the outcome was that it hit an embankment, rolled on to its roof and settled on the passenger side doors. any help from all the people would be of great help

the rear bushes seize up on these vehicles causing the rear to feel twitchy but usually they are noisey "very creaky" and the noise would have drove you mad, that said i cant see all four bushes seizing up and causing you to crash, hope that you did not sustain to much injury, pehaps the insurance company assesor may find something ! not wishing to add insult to injury you should not be braking in a bend ideal is to lose the speed in a straight line then drive through the corner

This is exactly how mine has been feeling but not so much of a light rear end. I posted a similar query back in Januarry but for various reasons I have yet to sort it out!

The car has since been through and passed an MOT and I asked the inspector about the bushes when he said that it had passed. Reply was that they were OK. A mechanic has suggested that I swap wheels front to rear so I might get time to get this done at the weekend.

I will definitely post an answer when I get it sorted!
