What's the difference between Michelin Cross Climate+ and Cross Climate 2?
My 2017 VW Golf GTE has 225/40-18 tyres which will soon need replacing. The Michelin Cross Climates are attractive and often recommended by you. However, the runflat version (Zero Pressure) only seems to be available in the older Plus+ version and not the newer "2". Given I have no standard spare, the runflat would add a safety factor. How much difference is there between the Plus and the 2, and how much harder ride will I notice on the runflats, given the 40 aspect ratio does not give much sidewall regardless?

The Cross Climate 2 is the successor to the Cross Climate+, and delivers improved grip in both wet and dry conditions as well as a slight improvement in fuel economy, so there are benefits with the newer tyre. If you choose the Zero Pressure option it is likely that this will increase the firmness of the ride, so if you feel that the ride comfort is already marginal you may find that this change makes the ride less than ideal.
It is also important that your alloy wheels are designed to accept run flat tyres. If they have a 'EH' marking on them this indicates they can accept run flat tyres, but if not there is no guarantee that the tyres will perform as expected in the event of a puncture.
