I took delivery of my new Ibiza TDi FR today. First impressions: it feels very quick, and after reading the "How do I drive a diesel thread" over the past few days, I can report that it has a VERY usable first gear.
Other things: bit disappointed at lack of remote locking, but v pleased with i-pod plug in slot! Nice white dials, it's SOOOO great to be back in a 6 speed proper manual rather than DSG and yes, it's nowt exciting but it does have lovely alloy wheels with red brakes.

Fun cars, real rockets.
Take care tho they can bite They understeer very badly, and I managed to provoke one into sudden lift off brown trousers oversteer!

Cheers TVM, I will bear that in mind! I am going on a spin after work down my favourite road (A529 Audlem - Market Drayton) so will get a feel for it and hopfeully avoid a beige moment.....
Forewarned is forearmed! : )

Thats one of my fav routes too! Was there recently trying out my new diesel power rocket.
Are you going to run the car in or just blast it from the word go?
Have fun :)

I'll be gentle for a while... although it's tempting to just floor it, it's SOOOO quick!
You local to Cheshire/Shropshire then OldSk0Ol?

Kind of, i'm just a bit further south of where you mention but its a great drive to get there and a fantastic drive around there. I live near Stafford and its a big enjoyable loop for me.
Coming from stafford i take the A519 out of stafford through eccleshall and join the A51 all the way to nantwich turnaround and loop back on the A529 through Audlem / Market Drayton and keep going till i get to Newport and take the A518 back into Stafford.... Or if i want to cut it short go back through loggerheads and eccleshall.
All in all cracking roads, very enjoyable especially in the summer. Everytime i go to chester i always take this route too. Also quite lucky to live 30/40mins away from Ashbourne / Derbyshire, drive loads around there too as have somewhere to stay in Ashbourne. Just have to be careful these days as plenty of camera vans so staying within limit gives lots of enjoying A and B road motoring.
Have fun!

It has to be said in its defence, I was errrrrrr, I think the phrase is "pushing the very edge of its envelope" - and then some.

Yes you see :)
I dont like it when people say cars handle badly when clearly they are pushing it too hard for the conditions, its only on the track that it truly matters not hurtling around a blind country road bend at 70mph :D
have fun

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but *all* Ibizas have remote locking (the FR has an alarm too).
|
Mmm.. this one has an alarm for sure, but the keys are distinctly un-remotified!
I will be having words with my people....
Anyways, off now for a blast!
Toot toot.

Ours (a basic 1.2S) has 2 keys, one remote and one not.
I just rechecked the web and it does show every model as having remote locking.
Is the car brand new?

Don't you mean 'Poop-poop!' stevie(toa)d?

More than likely Lud!! Just got back from drive #1, very good fun. It does understeer a lot more than my A3... but the steering is more precise. Have sorted out i-pod connector, am a very happy bunny.
OldSko0l, that's a nice journey you describe... I have family in Wolves and use every way possible to get there except the M6! I actually live in Nantwich where you do your "turn round". Not a bad place, loads of nice pubs, although they're building too many houses for my liking (you'll see the Noddy Toytown ones where you turn round to head back towards Audlem).
Re the keys, I seem to have two spare/auxiliary ones. Knowing me, I probably didn't pick up the main one. Wasn't on top form when I picked it up! I'll call them tomorrow.

I drive through (or rather, around) Nantwich regularly. I always wonder where the people who can afford the more expensive houses in Nantwich work - there's not really much around there at all?

Bill P.... you're right, on the surface, but Crewe (4 miles) is growing: Air Products, Caudwell phone group, Whatever British Rail is called now, Bentley etc. etc. plus you have Stoke (15 very quick miles) which has loads of industry and Manchester (30 slower but easily gettable toable miles) which is self-explanatory. Also, Chester is 20 miles away, a big financial hub these days (eg MBNA).

"Nice white dials, it's SOOOO great to be back in a 6 speed proper manual rather than DSG"
Can you tell us more, Stevie? I read mostly good things about DSG and 'm thinking about it myself for next time (current car and last one have been CVT automatics). What's not to like?

Avant, apparently, judging by the reaction on this forum and people I work with, it's just MEEEE!
I have said it before, it's a "New Labour" gearbox: it gives you what feels like autonomy but really it is behind the scenes, pulling the strings. Add in a jerkiness in reverse, and the fact that if you're driving on twisty roads, the paddles move with the wheel so you're often going down instead of up and vice versa.... and I just don't like it, Luddite that I am!
I am SO happy with my old-fashioned bang bang through the gate 6 speeder. : )
