Budget holiday hire cars - PW
Just wondering ifI have been unlucky. Flying out to Spain for family holiday at end of May. Booked a Berlingo through a small company a couple of months ago- was cheapest by some way. Recently realised had not heard back- so emailed a few days back to check all was ok. Got very short reply- no cars available apologies for any inconvenience.

In this case I have been lucky in that have now found the same car through a big local chain for less money, but wondered how many people arrive at their destinations to find themselves carless.

Am not naming the company as I dont know if this is standard for them, or if I have been the unlucky exception to the rule.

once arrived an hour early and was told that I could not pick up the car, which annoyed me intensely (prob because it was my fault although I am now older and grumpier and would not accept it).

Booked a car from a budget company (no naming and shaming) at Dublin airport. They had upgraded me at my cost, and reduced the hire period by one day, presumably so I wouldn't notice the higher daily rate. When I remonstrated, I was met with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. I didn't have time to make ad-hoc arrangements, so I bit the bullet. I also didn't notice the (carefully folded under) part of the credit card slip that said I had agreed the transaction had been converted from Euros to Sterling at a less than beneficial rate. My credit card company don't charge me a premium for this. Next time I'll take the bus.

Out of idle curiousity, which companies can one hire from that will give one a Berlingo - i.e. that you can be assured it will be a Berlingo rather than a Kangoo?
