Im looking for advise from the usual experts on 306 hdi air con
Ive been chasing a leak on my air con for a few weeks/months now and up to the minute have had a condenser, short and long pipe etc fitted.
After firing some gas through there was a large leak on what ive been told is called the pressure release valve fitted to the bulkhead.
Apparantly peugeot have never sold one of these parts but it costs around £120. There are 2 rubber grommets surrounding the fitting which are completly perrished. However peugeot wont sell these as seperate parts. Im hoping the valve is fine and its just the rubber seals that are leaking
Im unsure what to do as nobody seems to ever have fitted this part before.
Does anybody have any more info on this part/system that could help me.
I really want to get the aircon going as its cost a small fortune so far
thanks

I assume you mean control valve< its alittle unusual but you can buy O rings seperatley but not from the dealer. Go to an AC specialist , remove the pipes from the control valve & take the o rings to match & refit block. I can't remember whether its the 306 that if it needs a new clutch cable somtimes the AC pipes are in the way! have you had a new cable fitted and has the pipes been miss fitted. I think if the washer is left off the bolts the pipes don't tighten before the bolts bottom out!. If you have a leak that size you will need a new drier.

Sure is on an HDi - and this is what scfc has got AFAIR. We had to undo the pipes on my mate's 306 to change the cable - fortunately his A/C was already empty via the usual rotted out pipes and condenser!

yep thaks richard I thought it was the 306. Crap idea really I remember doing one & thinking one of the lads can do the next one!!!!. Typical french they do it just to see us squirm

Are you talking about the rubber grommets external to the pipework as it goes through the bulkhead? If you can see they're perished, then they're nothing to do with sealing the system.
The valve you're talking about is called a TXV, thermal expansion valve, and has nothing to do with pressure release. They can leak, as can the O rings on the 4 pipe connections.
If it's leaking around the rubber grommets where they go through the bulkhead, then I suspect the pipework has rotted through where the moisture is held by the rubber against the pipework. If it has, then you need a new evaporator, for which you have to do the infamous dash-out job.

yes dave its the rubber grommets through to the bulk head i thought they would cause some seal but they are wrecked.
I get confussed what parts are called becasue when i went to peugeot and got a guy out to check the parts they didnt know what they were looking at, where to look on their computer for parts or what they are called.
This sounds like an expensive job but im sort of at the point of know return as ive spent loads on it already.
Any ideas on cost on the remaining work?

just to update the people who contributed to this....Dave N you were right the pipework has rotted through and a new evaporator is needed £502 from the dealer which is more than im prepared to pay with labour
I considered a 2nd hand part but id probably have the similar problems and have to break the car for the part myself
Im unsure what to do now so any advise would be gratefully received.

scfc? Are you in Stockport?
If so, this company is good (in my experience) and are also mobile.
They also have a 306 condensor for £172.

im in stoke on trent but thanks for the link

The part itself does't cost a lot of money - taking the dash out does.
You will also need a new filter dryer, and whilst the dash is out it would be prudent to replace the heater matrix, as these are a common failure as well.
Don't forget as well, there are a number of other weak points on the a/c system, and sods law says that as soon as you repair one piece, the next weakest bit lets go.

i think its time to cut my losses? ive bought pipes and a condenser and paid to fit it but the dash would cost a fortune
maybe i should save the money to upgrade later
thanks dave
