I am sufficiently impressed by the Subaru Impreza 2.0 (non-turbo) to want to buy one.
The cheapest cars I have seen are from a company called allbrandsnew.co.uk
Has anyone dealt with this company?
After making enquires it seems that these cars come from Malta. They have the full 3-year Euro-wide warranty and I would be the first owner. The saving is almost £5k over the dealer price!! The dealer was not willing to "deal".
The only snag is that for the model that I want, the side airbags are a factory option (+£300). So I have to order the car, it gets built in Japan, shipped to Malta and then shipped to the UK. Apparently the wait will be about four months. Now I don't mind waiting this length of time - but I wouldn't want to wait much longer (no longer than say 5 months).
Can anyone suggest a form of words I should attach to the fomal order so that I can back out of the deal if it takes too long. I am paying £250 deposit and balance on collection of the car. I would want the deposit back if it took longer than 5 months.
Also, can anyone suggest a form of words that the car should be to exact UK specification? I have printed off all the details from their website and can hold them to the detailed specification when the car arrives.

Can't comment on the car or the dealer but www.newregcars.co.uk is a couple of hundred cheaper and not necessarily imported (but at those prices, probably they are imports).

Thanks. Newregcars.co.uk are actually the same company. The prices work out the same when you add on registration etc. Motordepot.co.uk is also the same company - they use these three 'brand names' - all based in Hull.

Maybe you should make sure that the car is spec'd up with the things that you want rather than trying to insist that it is exact UK specification. If you want an exact UK model then maybe you should buy it from a UK franchised dealer instead. The car is going to be an import, never a 'proper' UK car so you need to make sure that you are getting what you want before you order and not argue the toss when it arrives. If you want something out of the ordinary (such as the side airbags) then you are going to have to wait for it to be built and this is further complicated by the fact that it has got to travel to Malta before it comes to the UK. Okay it is fair to insist that it should arrive by a certain date but I think you need to be prepared to be a little flexible, as again if you want everything to be simple and run smoothly go to a UK franchised dealer and pay the extra cost. Besides do you really need the side airbags, you'll only ever use them if you crash it well.

I understand you point Simon.
They are quoting four months delivery and I would wait up to a maximum six months - so I am prepared to be flexible.
I would contest that using a dealer means that things would go more smoothly. My wife had a new car last year (not Subaru) and we had lots of problems with the dealer - delays, broken promises, lost paperwork etc.
I like the idea of side airbags - I might crash it well (or someone might crash into me!).
Anyway does anyone with a legal brain have a suitable 'time is of essence' clause I can attach to the order when i post it back. Can I say something like "If you do not reply to the contray withing 7 working days then I will deem that you have accepted this condition"?

I am also thinking of buying a wrx this way. You could approach Lichfield Imports or Graham Walker in Chester. The prices are not quite as low but they are 'proper' garages with workshops and showrooms.

I looked at those. They are almost £1000 more expensive and of course I would still have the delay because of the factory order requirement.
Allbrandsnew appear to be a car supermarket type place with a showroom.

The clause on delivery is to state the agreed delivery date and state "time is of the essence"
The clause for spec is to attach the UK spec and insist that the car matched the spec attached or a newer UK Spec - if in the intervening months the UK spec is changed by the UK importing agent (IMI)

If i was the dealer i would have to say 'these are the terms of business if you do not feel that you can work within them i will not do business with you'With that kind of operation they do not have the time or margin to deal with difficult customers.

I don't see the OP as a 'difficult customer'.
The supplier is quoting 4 months delivery and the buyer is prepared to wait up to 6 months, but wants the contract cancelled if its longer than that.
The OP also wants the delivered car to have the specification quoted on the suppliers website.
Both of these seem perfectly reasonable requirements. I would not want to deal with any supplier that did not agree to these conditions.

Well for me Aprilia,if i was the dealer i would make my decision if i wanted to take his money based on how much i would make,is the customer likely to start chasing me as soon as the order is placed, and if the customer is comfortable with the spec, which may or maynot be exactly as he expects.I'm sure the dealer just wants to get the car ordered, paid for and delivered with the minimum of fuss, and as i'm sure you are aware, you develop a sixth sense that recognises potential difficult customers.
I know when ever i sell a car i only like to sell it 'once' not over and over every time the customer calls or drops in.
is the OP really a main dealer customer,or is he really prepared to be patient and flexible to save a few quid?

The new Impreza is due in November, to be shown at the New York motor show in April - if it's up to six months delivery, say, you should be factoring in "run-out" prices into the equation

As regards UK spec, someone above suggested listing the UK spec and this is a good idea.
As for the time clause - well, I'd be more inclined to make a careful note of what they say in the small print. If they say delivery is in 4 months, get in contact with them at 3 months and check things are still going okay. If not, then you can start writing your "time is of the essence" letters then.
DON'T FORGET TO PAY YOUR DEPOSIT WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD. That way, you can sue the card provider as well as the dealer.
