I have a problem with a water leak in my A4 (Year 2000). The rear footwell behind the passenger seat has started to flood with up to an inch of water ... need to get this sorted ASAP before the electrics give up on me! Door seals appear fine, no obvious signs of leak to roofcloth around sunroof internally, no obvious signs of leak around boot lid. It is'nt coming from below as water gathers when car is parked.Any suggestions on what to look for together with any tips on drying out the carpet / Sound deadening much appreciated.

do a forum search for passat leaks.
Very common problem - leak from pollen filter or through bulkhead at the front. Clear out under the battery and make sure all drains clear. Check the soundproofing under the front carpet - probably soaked.
Watch for the comfort module on the passenger front floor getting wet.
Oh one other possibility - if its an avant, the pipe for the rear screen wash passes down the front passenger bulkhead - I have seen that leak - there is a connector. If you take up the carpet and remove the trim in the passenger area you will see which it is.

OP says footwell behind front passenger...

Hi,
not sure if its the same problem, but I had a leak in the boot of my A4 Avant. It took ages to work out, but it turned out to be the high level rear brake light module. The water tracked inside the tailgate and ended up soaking the boot floor. I know its a long shot, but always worth checking (wait for a dry day, then hose the fitting as see if the dampness appears)

Thanks for this, checked the front passenger well last night after posting this and found the soundprofing saturated, so looks like you are on the money!

It is a really common problem on vag cars. It pools in the back because it is lower, but is almost always a prob with the front.

I would suggest you get the carpets dried out ASAP. My son had a similar problem - water entering via the pollen housing. The first he knew was when the indicators stuck on, caused by water in the comfort module wiring in the passenger floor well. We sealed the pollen housing with silicon sealer & dried the carpets & insulation. Some people have had to renew wiring looms that have deteriorated in the constant dampness.

Cheers for that, Does anyone know an easy way to remove the passenger seat to allow me to pull the carpets up?

You don't need to get the seat out. I've got a Passat but assume that the Audi has the same basic arrangement. There are panels in the passenger footwell held by torx fasteners and another along the sill. Remove those and you'll be able to get under the carpet. The Comfort ECU is in a well under the front passenger carpet. For now, lift it out on top of the carpet and keep it dry - you won't need to disconnect it. Next investigate the leak. As mentioned previously, do a forum search for "Passat leak" and you'll find plenty of correspondence.........
