Hello everyone,
I hope someone can give me a definitive answer to a simple question: What is the kerb weight of my car? The only weight figure in the V5C log book tells me 1780 kg,
The chassis plate says 2340, 4440 and 1040 kg but no indication as to what each figure refers to.
I need to know which figure to use to calculate the percentage for towing a caravan.
Thanks
Andrew

I reckon they are about 1700kg, certainly not more than 2000kg, so your log book looks correct. Don't know what the other figures would be though.

Thanks Aprilia
Nice to see you are still there with words of wisdom!
Problem we have is that all the vans big enough for my tribe are twin axle jobs and they all crowd the 1750 1900 kg area and I dont want to buy a 4x4 just for towing a dozen times a year.

ive trawled the web and cant find the answer but i too would say about 1700kg....
trading standards near me have a free weighbridge you can or could use it for free last time i was there.
or most scrapyards the type that deal in all ferrous metals have a weighbridge you could ask if they could weigh your car the charge is usually a £5 for waggons .........watch for the big magnet mind ;-o

This site gives kerbweights and 85% towing weights. It says that the figures are manufacturers figures.

How big is your tribe Andrew? Or, to save you buying a big 4x4 have you thought of buying a tent for some of the "tribe" Our kids, when they got to a certain age much preferred to have their own tent rather than sleep in the van with us. Another point - older vans are often lighter because they don't have all the (unnecessary?) extras.

I reckon the 4440 is the max gross train weight - also relevant for towing. No idea on the others though.
