Hi all,
My mate's got the above car and is looking at getting rid in favour of a diesel. We went looking at a Seat Ibiza TDi 130 yesterday at a Seat dealers and were very impressed with the acceleration. It just seemed to keep pulling and pulling and it was so quiet when cruising.
Anyway, the Seat dealer couldn't have been more helpful. He took us up to a bypass and let us have a blast around and seemed like a decent bloke. I was amazed he let him have a drive to be honest given our ages.
Anyway, my mate really liked it (I did too to be honest) and we went inside to get down to the figures. He went off to do a check on my mate's Clio as he wanted to part ex. (The dealer had gone for a spin in it beforehand and have given it the once over).
He came back and said that it was coming up as an import as there was no data on it. When he said that, we remembered how when my mate first bought the car, the manuals were all in German but with that being nearly a year ago, we'd completely forgotten.
Nevertheless, the dealer still wanted to...well - do a deal. He kept pressing my mate for a value on what he wanted on his car but my mate kept quiet (probably best in this case - keep reading). Eventually, the dealer came out with a figure of 6 grand part ex against the Seat with a value of £7695. He was testing the water and I reckon would raise that figure a little quite easily. That figure was based on it being an import and having no service history as my mate never had the stuff in the car and has no idea if it has it or not.
So, I just want your thoughts really. What value would you assign to it under each of these conditions;
* Part ex with FSH
* Part ex without FSH
* Private with and without FSH
Was 6 grand a good offer? I was blown away to be honest. When he said it was an import I thought he was going to offer less than 5.
Just to make it easy, the car's done the better part of 50,000 miles and has all the kit - half leather, xenons, auto lights/wipers, disc changer, climate and all the works and is an 02 model on a '51 plate.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

It's the price to change that's important. You friend might be better off selling the Renault privately and then approaching the Seat dealer with a straight deal.

yes 6 grand part ex is a good offer according to the book , tho these things second hand are rapidly aquiring cult boy racer status so the dealer was keen cos it can out it NO problem. Your mate would also have people beating a path to his door if he puts it up privately for 7.5k
The ibiza sport 130? a cracking car. The ride is a bit hard and its gets a tad untidy when "more than adequate progress" is made but boy is it fun.

X, RF,
Thanks for your replies. He would sell it privately first but still owes £7,200 on the finance. Wouldn't that be a problem?
RF - 7.5k? Really? Even though it's an "import"?
The ibiza was impressive. Seemed really solid and well built. We couldn't try it on the twisties but got it up to 80-85ish and it seemed quieter than mine. More than likely the 6th gear coming into play I suspect.

The "import" part does not figure prominently when selling boy racer specials privately, the scroats are so keen to get their hands on them at this price point they dont care.

I wouldn't have thought that many people like me would want it simply because of it being group 16. I've got 2 years no claims and I wouldn't fancy insuring it in my own name let alone someone with 0NCB. Not to mention the price.
Still - lovely car. I wouldn't say no.
Aren't they all "imports" though? Clio's aren't made in the U.K. are they?
Thanks for your help anyway.

"Aren't they all "imports" though? Clio's aren't made in the U.K. are they"
Dont try and be clever Adam - you dont have the equipment.

Curses. Thought I'd gotten away with it then too.

Haha - the dealer rang back yesterday and offered him 4k because "it was an import".
Quite what happened overnight to drop the value 2 grand is beyond me but there you go. The good news is, we went looking at another one in Manchester and whilst the one in Chesterfield was in cracking nick, were it not for the number plates on this one, it could easily pass for brand new. It's got 17,000 less miles on, is 6 months newer and doesn't have a mark on it.
The private sale idea is looking more like an option now though. I'm amazed at how much pull the Ibiza has though. Whether it is or not I don't know but it feels quicker than the Clio. It just pulls like a train pretty much anywhere in the rev range. I'm impressed certainly.
We'll see anyway. Thanks for all the help,

Is it a facelift model, a local garage has a 51 plate pre facelift with 44k for £6900.
|
Yes it's the facelift model.
