Anyone here got a Chevrolet Blazer? I like the look of them and and thinking of buying one to tow our caravan. What I'm really interested in is 1, Fuel consumption 2, Spares costs. 3. Reliability and longetivity
Theres a few over here in RHD form and being US made, I'm assuming they go on forever. They certainly look the part!

I had one as a rental car in California last year. To be honest I didn't like it very much, it was gutless for a large capacity V8 and handled even worse than most full size SUVs, though this is isn't really a problem in the USA. However, it has amazingly little space inside. I was travelling with 3 colleagues on a business trip, we are all around 6 feet tall and it was quite cramped especially compared to the full size sedans we usually get. It's mechanically a very simple beast though, so I guess the oily bits will run for a long time, but the interior doesn't feel like it will last very long. To answer your question about fuel consumption, I calculated around 12 miles per US gallon average on a mixture of interstate and urban roads so 15ish miles per imperial gallon.

Couple of weeks experience of one when GM were still importing them. Other than rarity value I don't think it's got much going for it, though uncomplicated (too uncomplicated) mechanicals may well be quite robust.
I'd echo the comments about the surprising lack of interior space and add to that that interior quality was cheap, nasty and well beind the times by European and Japanese standards. Same again with on-road dynamics - simply not up to scratch
Unless you are near an acknowledged US import specialist sourcing spares long term will be an issue. And remember that everyday US SUVs like this are not built for people likely to keep them forever.
There are better, more cost-effective ways of finding a tow truck.

I had a Blazer for a while, although it was around a 1998 model, so I'm not sure how much they may have changed.
However, with that experience I would have to say gutless, tatty, unreliable, flimsy and horrible on petrol [even by my standards].

Many thanks for the frank opinions everyone! Looks like one to cross off the list - just shows how wrong one can be.

ive rented them a few times, maybe for like 8weeks added together
one time i collected the car and the girl said its brand new sir, well it brokedown lol
in all fairness id say it was as good/bad as anthing else in the price range
it went ok for a v6 in a heavy body...build quality looked the same as other 4x4s i rented such as the jeep and mitsubisi

>>and being US made, I'm assuming they go on forever>>
Why do you assume that?

Try a Izuzu Trooper, masses of room, bags of power to pull your caravan, best of all 3.? diesel will return low 30's mpg.

i have an older isuzu 2.8 turbo diesel and like stated above loads of space good economy and it will tow anything , you dont notice the weight on the back . roadholding is usual big 4x4 though lots of body roll and the back end likes to overtake you if you go to fast into a corner...cheers...keo
