Hi all.
Looking at buying a Mk3 Mondeo from auction. Budget is approximately £5k and the car purchased will be run until the end of its useful life, so residual value and resale prospects are a complete non-issue. Not shy to high mileage if the Mk3 is as a solid as the Mk2.
Ideally I am after a Ghia X, either a 2.0 or a 2.5 V6, no preference. Would love a TDCi but they will probably be out of budget. Condition is important. Would like a nice one, not a shed.
So then guys, what can I expect for £5k? How old am I looking at, and what sort of mileage? I'll probably be contacting Joe Dowd the auction buyer and asking if he can source one from BCA. I had contact with him last year when I was on the hunt for my Mk2 and although he was unable to find me a car, he was a thoroughly nice chap and I'd like to use him again.
Cheers!

I bought a 76K mile 2001Y Mondeo Ghia 2.O the week before Christmas through Jow Dowd. It was £3850, so with Joe's fees it was £4,100. Condition wise it was terrific; just a little dirt on the floor.
My experience with Joe was so good it was surreal. I'll post another time with the details, but I would recommend him unequivocally.

Got my 2001MY Zetec estate from cargiant. I live in the north east and it was about £1k cheaper for me to get it from there than anywhere up here (other than auction). Thaty was April last year. Hassle free dealing. Very short test drive though.
I happened to be in BCA Newcastle just before christmas where a 2001/51 Mondeo ghia diesel went for £3700, and an LX diesel for £3400. Both had 100k on the clock, and were in good condition.
I saw the ghia down the road at a dealers for £6499 just a few weeks later...
