I have a pretty major failure of the AC compressor on my '99 Mondeo 2.0- loud noise like a bucket of bolts revolving rapidly. The dealer says its kaput and then tells me that I also need new piping as the new compressor has been modified by FMC since the car was made. All in all the cost is over £1000 at which stage I gave the dealer two words! and took it home. The whole car is not worth much more!
Does any have an AC specialist - prererably mobile that they can reccomend in SE London or Kent. Any thoughts welcome.

You can sometimes pick up a compressor from a breakers - try ringing round the ones specialising in Ford first.
Will still need that specialist to fit & fill though, can't help there.
Two eyewitness accounts of an accident can make you wonder about history.

Aircon specialist (mobile) - Robert Newton, 07973 659391/01580 860489 (Ticehurst, Sussex area?), but I believe will cover your area - or you can take the car to him. This man diagnosed a problem on my 406 in August and did an excellent job at reasonable cost. He trains garage technicians in vehicle aircon systems too. What he doesn't know about aircon isn't worth knowing! Highly recommended.

It's still going to be an expensive job as the system is going to require flushing, at the very least, before a new or used compressor can be commissioned.
