Volvo S60 T5 SE headlights always ON - volvos60T5SE
Hi,

does anyone know how to turn the headlights (that are constantly on) off on my S60, the manual says that they are daytime running and there is no way to turn them off, but they are so annoying!

thanks for your help!

Yes, DRLs can be turned off on the S60 (and V70 and S80), but only by visiting a dealer equipped with VADIS. The switch involved is a software switch. In my experience, unless you can sweet talk the dealer, you will hand over between 20 and 30 notes for the priviledge.

Meant to add that the DRLs on your car (and my V70) are not separate bulbs, but are in fact the dipped beam circuit. I am actually in favour of them, and have no intention of disabling mine, but will admit that at 11 months and 10,000 miles I was already on my second set of dipped beam bulbs exactly because they're 'on' all the time the car is in use.

There must be a way as daytime running lights are not allowed on vehicles sold in Germany.

On my 1980 Saab 99 the only way to turn them was to pull the fuse. Make sure no other circuit will be affected if you try this.

Just sold my S80 with DRLs. No problems in 20 months, no blown fuses or bulbs.

A worthwhile safety feature. What I did was lower the beam (using the load adjuster to the right of the steering wheel) during the day and raised it at night when I needed the illumination.

iirc, was it not jasper carrott or some such comedian who said that after putting his volvo through the scrapyard crusher (in a last ditch effort to switch off the lights), the car came out with the lights were still on ?

Hi there, today I sorted the problem out. I positioned the light switch in the middle position ie "0", then turned the ignition on and operated the high beam for 12 seconds. Then released it and turned the ignition off. The dipped beam does not come on again after that whilst the position of the switch is on "0". Hurray, at last I can drive my S60 D5 without having the lights on all the time, just when I need them. I live in Greece and it is very bright here all the time so At last I have a choice now. I hope it helps others.
