I have replaced the standard steel wheels on my P reg 1997 for a set of 306 alloys. They are the same diameter, 14".
Now when i have to brake harshly the whole car vibrates. I think this is coming from the rear drum brakes as when i tested by pulling on the handbrake while moving, the vibration came back.
Are my brakes in need of a good service??

Could well be that you need to have the brakes checked.
Are the new wheels the same width & offset as the old ones?
Have they been balanced, are they securely fastened on?

Hi
You have used the correct alloy wheel bolts for the wheels, the ones with a flat washer on them?
You havent just used the steel ones have you?

I would also check the bolts,
The standard steel wheel bolts will not do.
If you have used normal bolts find a scrappy and buy some.
On another note: is the vibration just from one side? could the alloy be bent or unbalanced?

I went to the trouble of locating new wheel bolts directly from Peugeot. They tried robbing me for £4.10 a bolt, but managed to get all 16 for £25 after a lengthy discussion!
If it was the wheels ie buckled or balancing surely the vibration would be there all the time and not just on heavy braking. I think I had better get the brakes checked out!
