Friend has just taken his 2000 VFR800 FiX for MOT, the tester advised that that the front tyre (Dunlop D208?) had uneven excess wear on the right hand (offside) of the tread. He reckoned that this is sometimes associated with scooters riding off camber in the gutter(my friend doesn't ride in the gutter) or sometimes tyre pressure related, but obviously low pressure would wear both sides evenly. I suggested that it may be due to too many roundabouts, but I am unsure. He is going to replace the tyre, but is a little concerned as to why it happened in the first place.
Any ideas?

Yes if you linve in Milton Keynes it is the number of round abouts that cause the waer. It depends of the journeys he make if he encouters a fare few roundabouts then that could be the cause. Regards Peter

Just as a precaution I'd check the wheel bearings and the head bearings.

You’re spot on regarding head bearings!
I’ve just changed my front tyre because of
excessive wear on the right hand side
The Honda mechanic diagnosed that the head
Bearings are shot!

Everyone has the same problem,as we are all used to taking right handers that bit more aggressive, because of the roundabouts, tell him to give it a bit more welly on the left handers, and get his knee down.

I find both Dunlops 207 and 208 exhibit this trait, one side of the tread groove is ok, but the other is past the wear limit. I fitted a D208 earlier this year this and it's worn quicker than the rear. I take left hand bends as quick as right hand so at least I get full value from the tyre.

Thanks for the advice guys. He is reassured by the responses, have you any recommendations for tyre make and model?
