Hello,

I would appreciate some advice buying a second hand SUV.

I have a budget of around £25,000, maybe could go a bit higher.

I want something as new as possible and with as small a mileage as possible.

On my short list is..

Kia Sportage

Nissan Qashqai

Lexus NX 300 or 450

Volvo XC60

Thanks for any help or advice in advance.

Check the insurance is OK, then buy the Lexus. RAV4 (also check insurance) is worth a look too.

I was going to wait for delivery and initial thoughts before I announced this publicly, but I have just ordered a brand new BYD Seal U DMi Boost, which is a 1.5 Petrol/Electric Hybrid! Shock Horror.

Approximate new price £33,000 in an attractive (at least to me) metallic grey. 50 miles quoted Electric range with a non-turbo engine.

Contribution of about £1,200 for taking out a PCP deal over 4 years with 3.9% APR interest rate and a 6 year Manufacturers Warranty.

More toys on it than in Santa's sack.

I'll keep the Forum informed as to my experience and my honest opinion of this decision, so you'll have to wait, OP for feedback.

Wouldn’t touch the Qashqai, they’re not reliable things, just a rebadged Renault. I’d leave the Volvo as it’ll be older for the money and I go for the newer Kia, which has a great warranty (if you service it at a Kia dealer) and a good reputation for reliability. Nothing wrong with the Lexus or its lesser Toyota siblings either, just the Kia is newer and I quite like them.

If you go for Kia Sportage, then opt for HEV only. The latest Sportage (5th gen) MHEV and ICE only models have issues with PPF and Kia forum is full of people complaining about it.

Apparently HEV & PHEV are not affected.
