Volkswagen Golf R - Help with car I just brought please!!!! - Mikeexjs
Hello everyone,
I’m new here and would like done help and advice if anyone can help me please!!

i recently brought a mk7 golf R 24 plate and has been running really great until last week!!
The engine amber warning light came on and now stays on. I had the car cleared of this error but later that night came back on!
on Saturday I stated the car and the car and got a start/stop error and the car kept cutting out... I left it and then tried about 10 minutes later... no message and car was fine and running good until next day and same message... done the same and car was fine and today is fine and no message... I just had another diagnostic and told to take to a VW specialist which I did on Wednesday.
This is the report I got...

Camshaft A (Bank 1 Intake): Positioner Slow Response

Possible Causes
-Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205) faulty
-Wiring/Connectors from/to Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205) faulty
-Intake Camshaft Adjustment (Bank 1) faulty

Possible Solutions
-Check Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205)
--Perform Output Test
-Check Wiring/Connectors from/to Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205)
-Check Intake Camshaft Adjustment (Bank 1)
--Perform Basic Setting
--Check for Tightness of the Adjustment Mechanism
--Check Engine Oil Pressure

On Wednesday I took my car to the garage with this fault.. after running diagnostics on the car the told me I needed an engine flush as they told me a lot of build up of sludge is causing the problem... They take all day and tell me the tests are positive and look good and need to run one more test... three hours later ring to tell me I need a new chain as when testing the chain is making a banging noise and sounds a bad and not fit to drive!!! I told them to do the work and they ring the next morning and said after emptying the sump they have found metal in the oil and need a new engine!!! WTF!! The car was running smooth and no noise and now I told either scrap the car or pay £9000 for a brand new engine and labour!!! I have no idea what to do now and feel maybe they have caused more damage as I only had a engine warning light on!!

Can somebody advise me as what I can do I
Complete stuck and the seller says the car was always spot on and fully serviced and given me the number who looked after it when he had the car! This is no help to me and gave no fine back as it was a private sale!!

I’m lost now and the car was running nice apart from the engine warning light that came on!!

Only way you will get a single penny is to take the seller to court but if the seller has no money you will get none.

You took a risk buying privately and seem to have lost.

Before you do anything else get another garage to inspect your car

The yellow warning light (eml) is an engine malfunction light . This can cover of multitude of different issues . The fact that the diagnosis was logging camshaft position problems is an indication of timing chain trouble. Sadly very common on this engine . I suspect the chain has either broken or jumped the sprockets. Either will result in terminal engine damage . I would guess this is the reason for the previous owner selling the car .
