Hi, I’m not sure if this is being posted in the right place but I really need some help car buying. I am looking to buy a new car and the car I am looking at is a 2013 bmw 3 series with 40,000 miles on the clock. Firstly, is buying such a car with this kind of age/ mileage a good idea? Secondly, I have done a hpi check and the check came back with a mileage discrepancy. From what I can see the mileage increases at a steady rate with each MOT and nothing looks unusual. What could this be? Thank you.

It is not a very reliable used option, it’s not cheap to maintain properly and it has flagged up a mileage discrepancy. Even if this turns out to be a mistake anyone else looking to buy or take it as a part-ex later on will see the same issue when they too HPI it and thus it’ll be worthless when you try to sell it.

I’d leave prestige brands like BMW unless you’re well financed and can afford either the ongoing repairs or a newer approved used car. I’d leave this one but if you can post a link to the advert I’d be curious to see it.
