I saw one of these in the metal today. What an ugly car. It was coming the other way in stop start traffic so couldn't see inside, but it looked massive, disproportionately so and very high.

.yucky

There's a car for everyone i suppose, if you've got money to burn and want everyone to know then that's probably the car of the moment, especially the Black version.

It's not just ugly in the flesh its ugly in pictures as well.

Same goes for the Bentley SUV.

Money doesn't buy taste.

They're both very ostentatious and vulgar to me

Ugly they may be - personally I think that the Bentayga (stupid name) looks a bit less like a minibus than the Cullinan - but I read this week that both are selling well.

So effectively they're likely to be subsidising the other models in their ranges. Similarly the Cayenne and Macan outsell other Porsches.

Very true, it is a well known fact that the Cayenne effectively 'saved' Porsche. But ultra luxurious SUV's like the Cullinan and Bentayga have come about due to demand for this type of vehicle from North American, Russia and China.

It is very likely that there will be a Bugatti SUV too, which will make the two Brits look like bargains...........!

Anyone noticed the only thing missing from the Black version is the for hire roof light, looks like a slightly modified black cab to be.

My first sighting of one of these was from a distance and I also thought it was a new London black cab. The rear light clusters are very similar.

I was looking at the Cayenne . Used a few years old they are pretty good value. I guess people cannot live withe the gouging rate of tax and the woeful fuel consumption. Shame because they'll end up getting scrapped before their time. How the heck is that green?

Spending that much on a beautifully designed, rapid, comfortable, well equipped conveyance is somewhat vulgar anyway - but arguably understandable!

So buying one that is actually ugly ups the vulgarity stakes - "I've got loadsa money - so much that I can afford to spend it on something repellant rather than a thing of beauty"

Saw a BMW X7 parked up in town last week and was surprised to find the front end looked much better in the metal than I'd anticipated.

Hmm, i think my opinion on this monstrosity is unlikely to change upon seeing it in the metal!.

But hey, horses for courses, etc!

Yes the one I saw was black and your right it did look like a bloated black cab.

Memory plays tricks, but I seem to remember a new car designer (may even have been from RR) reported as saying 'if everyone likes it at first sight, I have failed'.

Its that big grille that does it. A 20th century design that doesn't work on a 21st century car, yet they insist on keeping it.
